Sven Dalsgaard

The visual artist, Dadaist and poet Sven Dalsgaard was born in Randers in Denmark in 1914 and remained a resident of Randers until his death in 1999.
Sven Dalsgaard was an exceptionally productive and versatile artist. His conception of life and, in his time, experimental, innovative, conceptual way of working, was associated with a unique variety of expression.

Dalsgaard’s production ranges from surrealism, modernism, dadaism, neorealism and in the 1980s and 1990s mixes elements from all periods. Dalsgaard used his own life as the basis of his artistic process to such an extent that his entire production can be seen as a polarization between intimacy and abstraction. A double gaze between the subjective and the generally human, the near and the distant gaze, which unfolds within all media and forms of expression through seven decades as an active artist.
