HANNAH TOTICKI ANBERT

Hannah Toticki Anbert has created a series of objects called ”Luggage”, deriving from her work with a public commission made for Uddannelsescenter Møgelkær (Center for Education Møgelkær in Denmark) in 2020. The objects seem to be abstracts of bags, totes or bundles, and the colors suggest a similarity to the images we know from the security checks at airports etc. They almost appear as when seeing a blurry x-ray, as if we get a hint of a content, however in the end without getting a full picture.

Hannah Toticki Anbert says about the project;
“We all carry a luggage with us in terms of our background, experience, education and the course of our lives.
I think this luggage is important because it is defining for our possibilities as well our choices in life. The idea that everyone is the architect of one’s own fortune is a problematic narrative, because it diminishes the significance of our upbringing, privileges, social class etc. The objects point to this problem as abstractions, some on a hook and closer to the image of a physical luggage, others more abstract shapes of what immaterial luggage could look like”

Hannah Toticki Anbert (1984/DK) lives and works in Hvalsø, DK. She was educated from The Royal Danish Academy of fine Arts in 2016 and was awarded with the StartPoint Prize for most promising new European artist at the Prague National Gallery in that same year. Since then, she has exhibited in museums and institutions in both Denmark as well as internationally, a.o. a solo exhibition at Holstebro Museum of Art in Denmark. Anbert has participated in Young Danish Art - Forecasting the Future at Arken Museum in Denmark, in Modern Love at Museum für Neue Kunst in Freiburg in Germany, in Shapeshifters at Malmø Museum of Art in Sweden in 2020, and she has upcoming exhibitions in Detroit and Tallin.
